World Co-operative Monitor 2015 edition launched today

The World Co-operative Monitor, a partnership between the International Co-operative Alliance (the Alliance) and the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse), collects available economic and social data on the world’s co-operative enterprises. The 2015 edition is the fourth one and it is built on data from 2013.

Isabelle Ferrand, will represent the International Co-operative Alliance at the IFRS Advisory Council

Monique F. Leroux, Chair of the International Co-operative Alliance’s International Accounting and Regulatory Affairs Committee (IARAC) and Chair of the Board, President and CEO of Desjardins Group, is proud to announce that Isabelle Ferrand, Chief Financial Officer of Confédération Nationale du Crédit Mutuel, has been selected to become a member of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Advisory Council.

This nomination is a first for the Alliance, which will now have permanent representation within the Council. Dame Pauline Green, President of International Co-operative Alliance expressed her satisfaction with this important achievement for the cooperative movement, and wished to thank Monique F. Leroux and the members of the IARAC for their efforts.

JEOD published Special Issue: The Cooperative Advantage for Community Development

Cooperatives are diverse organizations that efficaciously address a plurality of socioeconomic needs and do so in democratic and sustainable ways. Rooted in the unique principles and values that distinguish them from other business types, cooperatives, in a nutshell, embody what has been called “the cooperative advantage”. This special issue highlights the myriad roles that cooperatives can and do have in protecting and developing communities, as well as the possible tensions and challenges that emerge in the process. Including seven articles from established and upcoming cooperative studies scholars, the special issue critically assesses diverse experiences of cooperatives deployed for community development. Via papers engaged in case study approaches, political economy perspectives, critical historical research, and qualitative and quantitative methods, this special issue of JEOD critically reflects on and contributes to understanding the role of cooperatives in grounding bottom-up and locally based community development.
